When Might My Pet Need Urgent Care?
Urgent care is for problems that need prompt veterinary attention but may not always require a 24-hour emergency animal hospital. These situations can change quickly, so calling first helps our team guide you appropriately.
Please call East York Animal Clinic if your pet is experiencing:
Vomiting or diarrhea
Appetite loss or refusal to eat
Limping, pain, or sudden mobility changes
Coughing, sneezing, or breathing changes
Eye redness, squinting, swelling, or discharge
Ear pain, head shaking, or strong ear odor
Skin wounds, hot spots, swelling, or abscesses
Urinary accidents, straining, or blood in the urine
Lethargy, weakness, or unusual behavior
Minor wounds, bites, or injuries
Sudden changes in rabbits or small mammals, including reduced appetite, fewer droppings, or hiding
What to Expect During an Urgent Care Visit
When you call, our team will ask about your pet’s symptoms, when they started, and whether anything has changed quickly. We may recommend an urgent exam at our animal hospital in East York, or direct you to an emergency veterinary hospital if your pet needs a higher level of immediate care.
During your visit, our urgent care vet will perform an exam and may recommend diagnostic testing or imaging, depending on your pet’s symptoms. From there, we will explain what we find, discuss treatment options, and help you understand what to watch for at home.
Treatment may include medications, wound care, fluids, pain relief, nausea support, infection treatment, monitoring, or additional testing. If your pet needs surgery, advanced imaging, overnight care, or emergency hospitalization, we will walk you through the next steps.
