How Parasites Affect Pets and Families
Parasites do more than cause discomfort; they carry disease, disrupt daily life, and put both pets and people at risk.
Fleas reproduce rapidly, turning a few bites into a full household infestation within weeks. They cause intense itching, allergic dermatitis, anemia in young or small pets, and can transmit tapeworms. Once fleas establish themselves in carpets, bedding, and furniture, elimination requires treating all your pets and the entire home environment.
Ticks are active in Ontario whenever temperatures reach 4°C or higher, which means they're a threat nearly year-round in urban and suburban areas. They transmit Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis, which are illnesses that cause fever, lethargy, joint pain, and in severe cases, kidney damage.
